Campus Master Plan

The school’ s framework plan objectives were outlined as follows:

• To align our campus and facilities with Nido´s Mission and Strategic Plan of 2015-2030.
• To modernize the campus transforming it from a school built for the 20th century, to an innovative 21st century campus aligning with a modern pedagogy.
• To gain a holistic view of the campus carefully considering how to improve the overall organization and connections within the existing campus and determine possible scenarios for future expansion.
• Develop a clear relationship with our environment, the adjacent community and the surrounding neighborhood needs, taking into account the macro territory.
• Consider the impact of the development of new public roads that are projected on all of the boundaries of our land.
• Optimize the use of the School´s land holdings to enhance educational and extra-curricular experiences and generate additional revenue streams to support the School’s mission.
• Incorporate spaces or facilities that will allow Nido to fulfill our mission of being a hub of knowledge creation and dissemination.
• Provide a world class Early Years School facility and incorporate universal access throughout the campus.
• Strengthen our foundational principles by fostering a better connection with nature and the environment, allowing learning to happen anywhere.
• Incorporate sustainability throughout the campus.
• Evaluate the existing facilities and determine how we might renovate or repurpose spaces considering flexibility of use for different programs and the different divisions.
• Improve how we use our facilities by increasing efficiency and avoiding scheduling conflicts.
• Renovate or create new spaces for project-based learning.
• Incorporate spaces for STEM work within each division.
• Incorporate student wellness spaces and student support spaces.

The Nido 2050 framework plan process integrated substantial opportunities for engagement for the school community. At the onset, the design team conducted over 15 stakeholder interviews with key faculty and staff, with over 70 participants. Parents and alumni were also participated in lively discussions around issues and opportunities for Nido and provided valuable input.

To complement the engagement process, the design team conducted an online, interactive co-mapping survey with the Nido community at large. Over 870 participants showed how they navigated the campus, where their favorite areas to collaborate are, as well as facilities that are in need of improvement, among other considerations.

Prior to the completion of the concept plan process, the design team circled back with the same stakeholder groups to show progress and present ideas over the course of two in-person Open Forums at the school and a video conference meeting with Parents and Alumni.

• Re-engage Nido with nature, rethink how the school utilizes its land
• Establish a site for the new Early Years School
• Improve and Enhance sports and athletics facilities

• Provide new learning spaces across divisions
• Create partnership opportunities - Nido as a Hub of Knowledge, expansion of academic program offerings
• Provide spaces for parents/alumni to further engage with life at Nido
• Create deliberate strategies for Nido to have a greater positive impact in Lo Barnechea

Creating the Nido Hub of KnowledgeThe vision to create a 21st century hub of knowledge at Nido is supported by four pillars:

• Celebrate and encourage collaborative learning through visible, flexible, and accessible indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Integrate nature and sustainability as the backbone of the campus, through curricular and extracurricular programs as well as its infrastructure.
• Foster wellness through campus life programs and its physical setting, reinforcing a holistic educational model that nurtures the mind, body and spirit.
• Connect with the community on and off-campus, advancing Nido’s public purpose and expanding the school’s influence in the district, Santiago and beyond.
