The International School Nido de Aguilas

Dear Nido Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at The International School Nido de Aguilas. My name is Ken Kunin, and I am honored to join Nido as your new Head of School. I hope you have had an enjoyable break with time to relax and reconnect with family and friends. We are excited to welcome students to Nido for our first day of school on Wednesday, July 27th!

Since being named your new Head of School, I’ve been busy learning all I can about Nido to know how best to be of service as together we strive to meet the Nido mission, to “empower learners to connect authentically, explore with curiosity, and act with purpose.” Having just arrived in Chile on July 5, I’ve been connecting with new people and experiences, exploring Santiago and Nido, and acting with purpose to prepare for the first day of school. I can’t wait to get started.

Over 140 new students from 23 countries and 21 new faculty and staff are joining the Nido family this year. Our student ambassadors, counselors, teachers and staff, and Nido Parent Association provide a wonderful welcome to our new community members. Since I am one of those new to Nido who has benefited, I can tell you that they do a marvelous job of providing a very warm Nido welcome. Thank you! In the days, weeks, and months ahead, we look forward to working with ALL families, faculty, staff, and students to make this new year a successful and positive one for our learning community.

During the break, we’ve been cleaning, fixing, painting, and unpacking to ensure we’re ready for a smooth start to school. Also, we continually review and update our COVID-19 manuals and protocols as needed to reflect any changes to the Paso a Paso Plan. We will continue our community education efforts to reinforce the health and safety measures we need to practice every day.

Early Years, Elementary, Middle, and High Schools are also busy preparing for the arrival of students, setting up dynamic learning environments while meeting all currently required health and safety protocols. Each day as I walk the campus and go in and out of classrooms, I see the remarkable efforts of faculty and staff to prepare for an engaging and exciting year of learning for all Nido students. At the same time, I see that we have taken and will continue to take all the precautions needed to ensure that attending school is as safe as possible. Thank you for your collaboration, consideration, and support as we make our school a safe place for learning.

I can’t wait for Wednesday, July 27, to get the school year underway!

Many thanks,

Ken Kunin
