During the 2025-2026 school year, Nido's Sustainability Committee focused its efforts on advancing initiatives aligned with the school's Strategic Plan, with particular attention to three key areas: community, curriculum, and campus. Bringing together representatives from across all divisions of the school, as well as members of the parent community, the committee worked collaboratively to strengthen Nido's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Among the year's accomplishments was the successful support of Earth Day programming, with committee members working closely with event organizers to enhance both the organization and overall experience of one of Nido's most important community-wide celebrations. The committee also continued efforts to improve the school's waste management systems, building on existing initiatives to promote more sustainable practices across campus.

In addition, the committee dedicated time to clarifying and strengthening the connections among Nido's campus, community, and curriculum, highlighting the many ways in which sustainability and nature-based learning are embedded throughout the student experience. This work helped create a more cohesive vision of how environmental responsibility is reflected in both teaching and daily life at Nido.

Reflecting on this work, Sustainability Committee Chair Jason Scoles shared: “It has been an absolute honor to serve on this committee for several years, and a true privilege to chair it this year, facilitating a shared approach alongside such dedicated committee members. This work is about so much more than just improving our physical campus; it is a vital throughline that weaves together our campus, community, and curriculum to elevate our sustainability efforts. When we connect with authenticity, explore with curiosity, and act with a sustainable purpose, we aren't just protecting our environment—we are anchoring Nido's bright, sustainable future in everything we do.”

Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 school year, work should begin on the solar energy project in the Nido Hills while continuing to advance other sustainability initiatives that support the school's strategic priorities and environmental commitments.
