The International School Nido de Aguilas

The high school Entrepreneurship class welcomed Guillermo Figueroa, a founding engineer at Ruuf.cl, to classes over the past week and a half. He came with a real question: where could you put power on campus, and what would you do with it?

 Ruuf.cl

Ruuf.cl is a Chilean company that helps homeowners and businesses install solar panels on their roofs. Guillermo challenged students to think about how that technology could work in a school setting. Students spent a session brainstorming possibilities and sorting them by power requirements, filling chart paper with ideas ranging from phone charging stations to off-grid kitchen appliances.

Over subsequent classes, student teams looked up power consumption numbers, calculated what a single panel could realistically generate over a day of Santiago sun, studied precedents from other schools and public spaces, and identified the physical constraints of the locations they were proposing.

When Guillermo returned this week as part of Nido's Earth Day celebration, each team presented a formal pitch. They had written proposals, done the math, and anticipated the hard questions. Some proposed charging stations for the Parent Waiting Area. Others proposed powering water coolers by the tennis courts, bathroom flushing devices, and charging tables in International Park. Each group had to justify their location, their power estimates, and their understanding of what makes a small-scale solar installation feasible in practice.

Ruuf.cl's work sits at the intersection of renewable energy and practical infrastructure, and the partnership gave Nido students a window into what it actually takes to bring solar technology into a real-world setting.
