Over the past two weeks, EYS, ES, and Middle School students have embarked on transformative journeys, connecting with their classmates, exploring new environments, and putting their learning into action in some of Chile's most breathtaking outdoor settings.
At Nido, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Over the past two weeks, our MS students have had the incredible opportunity to engage with the world around them through a series of immersive outdoor experiences. From the mountains of Portillo to the hills of Nido, students have connected with nature, explored diverse environments, and put their classroom learning into action. These experiences foster personal growth and collaboration and deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship and the world they live in. Here’s a glimpse of the adventures our students have embarked on recently.
Grade 6 students spent three days and two nights in Portillo's stunning mountains, where they participated in a range of immersive activities designed to build teamwork, resilience, and self-awareness. From kayaking on serene lakes and rock climbing in rugged terrain to tackling creative problem-solving challenges and engaging in cooperative games, students developed a deep sense of collaboration and perseverance. They also practiced environmental stewardship by adhering to the 'Leave No Trace' principle throughout their adventures. Evenings were spent around a cozy bonfire, sharing stories and stargazing as students reflected on their experiences and learned about the constellations.
Grade 7 students had the opportunity to spend five days and four nights in the beautiful wilderness of Los Pellines. Led by enthusiastic and knowledgeable local guides, students immersed themselves in the natural surroundings, learning firsthand from the environment and their hosts. The warm welcome from the Los Pellines team and the energetic outdoor activities helped students build new skills, form lasting friendships, and develop a deeper appreciation for nature.
Meanwhile, 4th Grade students ventured to the Santuario de la Naturaleza in El Arrayán, where they delved into the region's unique ecosystems. Through guided exploration and hands-on learning, students observed the rich biodiversity of the natural sanctuary and connected with the natural world in meaningful ways.
Finally, Kindergarten 1 students explored nature as part of their Unit of Inquiry on "Animal Rangers." Their visit to the Nido Hills allowed them to observe different animal habitats, apply their learning in real-world settings, and develop their understanding of ecology and conservation.
These experiences are part of our ongoing commitment to outdoor education. Whether on our own Nido campus or in the wilderness, our students constantly learn beyond the classroom, engage with nature, and develop the skills they need to thrive in a complex, interconnected world.
