Nido students were actively engaged in Outdoor Education programming all year long. First semester highlights include EYS and ES visits to the Nido Hills to Connect with each other and the natural world right 'in our own backyard'. Students Explored different ways to make meaningful lessons from their classrooms come to life in authentic, hands-on activities: from activities focused on wellness, curiosity and creativity to studying local animal habitats, the water cycle via the Nido Creek, different kinds of seeds and how they get from place to place, rocks and minerals, both in the Nido Hills and the Santuario del Arrayan.
Grades 9 - 11 WWW programs included individual and group challenges at Latitud 90's Challenge Course, a visit to the local agricultural school: Fundación Origen in Pirque, hiking/environmental lessons at Cerro El Carbon and Yerba Loca, learning about the Mantagua Wetland and cleaning the beach in Concon and more.
During Semester 2, just to name a few....we took G4 and G5 on Outdoor Education trips to Maitencillo and Mantagua, connected with the G5 Art for their Selknam project at the Nido Creek, supported Middle School Biodiversity lessons, Humanities Passion Project Inquiries and more. Grade 6, 7 and 8 students pushed themselves outside their comfort zones at Portillo and Los Pellines respectively, learning about the natural environment and ways we humans can make positive impacts on our communities. G9 students experienced walking tours of the Nido Hills in their Geography/Map reading/Social studies unit. The Class of 2022 also participated in horse riding with local huasos and hikes at the Santuario del Arrayan and Aguas de Ramon as part of the Sr WWW Experience before moving on to their next adventures in life.
Overall, we’re proud to see the engagement, curiosity and growth students displayed in all of our programs. It’s been a pleasure.
