Last week, Nido hosted English Summer Town, a program that offers free professional development for public school teachers in Chile who teach English. Now in its seventh year, this initiative is done in partnership with the Ministerio de Educación's Centro de Perfeccionamiento, Experimentación e Investigaciones Pedagógicas(CPEIP) and Inglés Abre Puertas (PIAP).
Nido teachers led sessions on how to teach a growth mindset in English, content and language-integrated learning, student-centered teaching methodologies, and more. This year, the theme was “Changing Paradigms in Education,” and more than 160 teachers from all over the country participated in the in-person and online sessions. This initiative originated in Nido's vision to be a hub of knowledge creation and dissemination in Chile and the world and connect with and positively impact our broader community.
At the same time, this is a mutually enriching opportunity for our participating faculty, who can collaborate with and learn from other teachers in Chile. “For the seventh consecutive year, we have partnered with the English Program Opens Doors (PIAP) of the Ministry of Education to train English teachers from public schools. We had 60 teachers on our campus and 100 more online! The online offer allowed us to train teachers from different locations in the North and South of Chile,” explains Paz Nalegach, Summer Town Director and Nido’s Assistant Head for National Plan Affairs.
Since 2017, the Nido Academy has trained more than 700 educators from all over Chile. The trainings are led by Nido teachers following the ‘Teachers Teaching Teachers’ model, in which theyshare methodologies and strategies, promoting a professional dialogue among educators. Nido’s objective is to empower and support teachers by providing them with tools they can immediately adapt and use in their local contexts.
