The International School Nido de Aguilas

Parent-teacher conferences start next week at Nido. On Friday, April 17, and Monday, April 20, parents and students will meet with teachers in a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect, and look ahead in a student’s learning journey. When approached thoughtfully, they can become meaningful moments that support growth and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

If you haven’t yet, remember to book your conferences in SchoolsBuddy. Here’s some advice to take advantage of this opportunity.

Prepare and Stay Open

Before the conference, take time to reflect on your child’s experiences—what has gone well and where they may need support. If you have specific concerns or questions about your child's progress, prepare them in advance. Come with questions, listen with an open mind, and take notes. Continuing the conversation at home can help reinforce key takeaways and next steps.

Let Students Take the Lead

At Nido, we empower students to be leaders of their own learning. During the conferences, children play an active role by sharing their work, reflecting on their progress, and identifying goals. Giving them space to lead builds confidence and helps them develop important skills, such as communication and self-reflection.

Focus on the Future

While it’s important to reflect on past performance, the most productive conferences look forward. Use this time to discuss strategies for continued growth and to set goals for what comes next. Remember, learning is a journey—this is just one moment along the way.

Look Beyond Grades

Grades provide useful information, but they don’t tell the whole story. Conferences are an opportunity to focus on effort, progress, and curiosity. Celebrating these elements helps foster a growth mindset and keeps the focus on learning rather than just results.

A Shared Effort

Ultimately, parent-teacher conferences are about collaboration. After the meeting, consider how you can support your child's growth at home-whether through specific activities, regular check-ins, or ongoing communication with teachers. By working together—students, families, and teachers—we can better support each child’s growth and ensure they continue moving forward with confidence.
