What does it take to create meaningful change in a school community? For Nido’s Grade 8 students, it starts with curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to making a difference.

Students recently completed the 2026 Changemaker Project, a week-long inquiry experience centered on one powerful question: How might we build a better Nido Middle School?

Throughout the week, students explored real aspects of student life, gathering quantitative and qualitative data, interviewing stakeholders, and investigating the root causes of challenges facing the middle school community. Along the way, they participated in expert-led workshops facilitated by Nido faculty and staff, developing valuable skills in research, data analysis, collaboration, project planning, and persuasive speaking.

Working in small teams, students transformed their findings into actionable proposals designed to leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Nido students. The experience culminated in a showcase where teams presented their ideas, shared evidence-based recommendations, and demonstrated what it truly means to be a changemaker.

While every project reflected thoughtful research and creativity, five teams were selected to present their proposals to a panel of judges. Three projects were ultimately recognized as the top proposals:

Test Organizer for Middle School
Created by Chelsey, Violeta, Valentina, and Daniela, this proposal introduces a centralized test calendar that would allow teachers to notify students of upcoming assessments in one shared location. The goal is to reduce test anxiety, improve organization, and support stronger academic performance.

MS Athletics Captains Committee & MS Game Promotion
Developed by Ulli, Elo, and Olivia, this initiative aims to increase student engagement and attendance at Nido athletic events through enhanced promotion and student leadership opportunities.

The Buddy Program
Created by Benjamin, Jorge, and Matias, this proposal would connect Middle School students with High School buddies, easing the transition to high school, reducing anxiety, and strengthening community connections.

The Changemaker Project challenged students to think critically about their community's needs and empowered them to develop practical solutions with lasting impact. Congratulations to all Grade 8 students for their hard work, creativity, and dedication to making Nido Middle School even better for future generations.
