Dear Student and Parents,
I hope that everyone had a wonderful and restful summer. As usual, we stayed busy over the break here at Nido. In addition to the Nido Summer Camp for younger children, many High School students from Nido and other schools around Chile were engaged in special topics in the arts and sciences at our second annual Nido Summer Institute. Buildings and Grounds crew made many internal improvements in preparation for the start of semester two. Additionally, for the second year, our National Plan Director Paz Nalegach hosted a weeklong institute for teachers of English from public schools in Chile to learn from Nido teachers the Nido Way. The program was well received and was featured by the Ministry of Education. Finally, College acceptances have been rolling in for many of our seniors, and the preliminary reports are fantastic! Overall a great summer!
This semester looks to be an exciting one. As a school we will be kicking off the semester with review of our summer community read by Isabel Allende, "My Invented Country". We will be conducting an all-school assembly that will include presentations from students and teachers. Additionally, the book will be an integral part of our in-class activities in the first weeks of school. It is expected that all students have read the book, either the Spanish or the English version, in support of our community's initiative to have a shared intellectual experience.
In the high school we ended last semester by saying goodbye to Dr. Ralph Maurer's wife Meg Butler who worked as a Grade Nine Social Studies teacher. To start this semester we would like to welcome Ms. Valentina Infante who will be replacing Ms. Butler. Additionally we are happy to be having Ms. Georgina Rodgers joining our High School team as she will be replacing Ms. Shannon Stringer who will be out on maternity leave.
In closing, I want to mention that our Admissions Office is very busy as the applicant pool continues to grow. Once again we will be welcoming several new families to our community who participated in our orientation program. The interest in Nido is a result of Nido's great reputation as well as our excellent faculty and facilities, and the warmth and spirit of our community. Students will begin on Monday the 19th at 7:45am in the theater for our opening assembly.
Looking forward to a great second semester!
