NIDO NEWS

Welcome Back from Athletics

Welcome to a new year of Nido Athletics! There is a renewed energy and spirit that comes along with the beginning of each season and as I begin my twenty-third year at Nido, I can promise that we will continue to work hard to create an environment that creates excellence with the best positive experience for all.

Our theme this year is simply "Team". A successful athletic program includes dedicated coaches, active support from the student body, outstanding leadership from school administrators, and most importantly, a great sense of pride fostered by the entire community. It will be our mission to facilitate all those facets together to create the best athletic "Team" and program possible.

We will continue to encourage our student athletes to compete with passion and to do it with class and dignity, always balancing their sports with their academic demands. Playing hard, playing fair, and dedicating themselves to be the best they can possibly be, but most importantly, having fun! We know for sure the rewards will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

We have so much to look forward to in this new 2017-2018 school year. The first semester sports for Middle School are:

  • MS Girls & Boys Basketball
  • MS/HS Junior League Baseball
  • MS Girls Field Hockey

  • HS Dance Team
  • Grade 9 Junior League Baseball
  • MS/HS Cheerleading
  • MS/HS Girls & Boys Track & Field

  • MS/HS Girls & Boys Swimming

The girls and boys Volleyball and Soccer try-outs begin tomorrow Tuesday, July 25th, while the swimming time trials will start on Wednesday, July 26th at 3:30 pm. All other High School and Middle School sports will begin on Monday, July 31st.

The Nido swimming program has been revamped adding a another level of High Performance to our Swim Club called UNIDO. The name UNIDO comes from the combination of Nido and Universidad Andrés Bello, two large institutions that have started a new partnership that will bring great benefits to our school in two important areas: academics and athletics.

It is well known that Nido is one of the top two Santiago schools in swimming but from now on, our Nido Eagle Rays will be able to compete at a very competitive National level with UNIDO. As a matter of fact, several of our UNIDO swimmers competed already at the last National tournament last June with great results. We are happy to announce that in August, three of our UNIDO swimmers will be representing Chile at the 6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, USA and two at the South American Copa Pacífico that will be held in La Paz, Bolivia. In late September, three swimmers will competing at the 2017 South American Youth Games that will be held in Santiago. What an inspiration for our younger swimming Eagle Rays! More information will come soon.

I encourage all the parents to learn more about our programs and the Nido Athletics Booster Club and to become part of the Nido family as a parent volunteer, supporter and fan. Kristina Rodawold (nido.npa.bc@gmail.com) is the Nido Athletics Booster Club Chairperson and would love to hear from you.

On behalf of our coaches, staff, and booster club, we welcome you once again to Nido de Aguilas and thank you in advance for your support. Through our combined efforts, we will continue to generate the continued resources necessary for consistent success within our programs.

I look forward to getting to know you all this semester. I feel honored to be part of this fabulous school and promise to work hard on your child's behalf to promote and strengthen the values of our programs.

With the Nido Eagles Spirit!
