NEW MINDFULNESS COURSE FOR PARENTS


Lina Paumgarten, Nido HS Counselor and Wellness Coordinator, is once again offering her popular and valuable mindfulness courses to parents. New this year is an additional offering of a 4-week Advanced Mindfulness Workshop for those who have already completed the first 8-week workshop.

Parents OPTION 1 (Level 1):

8 WEEK MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP (8WMW) with Lina Paumgarten

Please register by filling out this registration form. Your registration will be confirmed by Lina personally in an email. The minimum number of participants is 15 and the maximum number of participants is 25 people. Once your registration comes through, if you are not one of the first 25 registered, you will be placed on a waiting list for anyone who drops out or for next semester.

Please check the dates before registering (in the registration form). Past participants have shared that when they are not present at all the workshops, they do not feel as engaged and don't get as much out of the experience.

Parent Commitment Dates/Times:
8 Tuesdays Sept 24 - Nov 26 2019 (8:00 - 10:00am)
(excluding Nov 5 due to WWW in HS)

Registration Deadline: Friday September 6, 2019


Parents OPTION 2 (Level 2):

4 WEEK MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP ADVANCED (Level 2) with Lina Paumgarten

NOTE: Pre-requisite is the 8WMW completion with Lina Paumgarten.

Registration is now open for the newly created 4 Week Mindfulness Workshop ADVANCED (Level 2) with HS Counselor/Wellness Coordinator Lina Paumgarten.

Please register by filling out this registration form. Your registration will be confirmed by Lina personally in an email. The minimum number of participants is 10 and the maximum number of participants is 25 people. Once your registration comes through, if you are not one of the first 25 registered, you will be placed on a waiting list for anyone who drops out or for next semester.

First 4WMW round: 4 Thursdays, Sept 26 - Oct 17 2019 (8:00 - 9:30am)
Second 4WMW round: 4 Thursdays, Nov 14 - Dec 12 2019 (8:00 - 9:30am)
Note: You can choose to participate in both or either of the 2 rounds this semester.
If numbers are high, then participants will be limited to one session only.

Who can register:
This 4WMW Advanced Level 2 option is only open for Parents who have completed the pre-requisite 8WMW with Lina Paumgarten.

What to expect:
- Once a week Mindfulness group practice
- 1.5 hours each session
- You will be supported to start a project related to Wellness/Mindfulness that will impact the community in some way
- You will receive 4 weeks of group support as you start your project that will impact your community
- You can register for both or just one of the 4WMW Advanced Level 2 options

Registration Deadline: Friday September 6, 2019

Remember: Only parents who have completed the 8WMW with Lina Paumgarten are eligible to register for this 4WMW.

Nido's Learning Coaches Program

Our Learning Coaches balance the roles of coaching and curriculum facilitation in a student-centered coaching model. They engage in curriculum coaching: creating learning experiences for faculty and course-alike teams to design curriculum and student-centered coaching cycles, partnering with teachers in the classroom, focused on student learning and evidence-based practices.

ALUMNI CONNECT WITH STUDENTS IN DISTANCE LEARNING
This semester in distance learning the Grade 8 Humanities classes worked on a design thinking project that explored 'How should we remember the past in order to impact the present and influence the future?' They were fortunate to have the expertise and feedback of several Nido alumni who are professional architects in the portion of their project that called for designing a memorial.
Choose Your Own Adventure in ES Distance Learning

In Grade 2 Distance Learning Mr. Chad Mills led his students though a creative writing process to engage his students in the collaborative and fun process of writing a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book.

Nido Values in Distance Learning

Ms. Layne Hudes, Elementary School Principal, and Mr. Jon Penhollow and Ms. Jessica Overton, Elementary School Assistant Principals, recently reflected on how the Nido values are expressed by our community during distance learning.

Colegio Internacional Nido de Águilas y Fundación Educacional Seminarium se unieron en alianza para desarrollar la primera versión de la Academia de Desarrollo Docente con foco en el impulso profesional entre pares.

Durante 2 días y medio, profesores capacitarán a profesores para desarrollar las habilidades que requieren los alumnos para superar con éxito los desafíos del siglo XXI.

NIDO PLACES 18TH IN CHILE'S PSU RANKING

The 19 National Plan students who recently sat for the PSU (Prueba de Selección Universitaria) earned Nido the 18th spot in the top 100 schools in Chile for PSU rankings.
International Education Conference for Social-Emotional Learning

All are invited to Making Connections, Building Communities, Nido's first International Education Conference for Social-Emotional Learning, on Saturday, March 7 from 8:30am - 4:00pm.

This conference will feature a keynote presentation on the importance of social-emotional learning in schools from Professor Catherine Griffith of University of San Diego and a variety workshops in English and Spanish from experts on topics and issues that counselors and teachers face daily in the classroom and parents face with their children and teens at home.

This conference is free and open to all parents, teachers, and counselors from any school in Chile.

Professional Development Conferences at Nido

In March 2020 and May 2020 Nido will be hosting two exciting professional development opportunities open to educators worldwide. Join us for Teaching and Learning Through Inquiry with Kath Murdoch on March 14-15, 2020 and Readers and Writers Workshop with Erin Kent from May 11-15, 2020.
