Dear Nido Community,
Today the Chilean Ministry of Education declared that schools in Chile will remain closed or in distance learning for an additional two weeks and also move their winter vacation to occur for two weeks directly afterward, meaning schools on the Chilean calendar will remain closed at least through the end of April.
Based on this information, Nido will continue the distance learning program for the foreseeable future. We are currently assessing the impact of the winter vacation declaration on our unique school calendar and will communicate on that matter when it is more clear, though we currently anticipate remaining in session during that time.
We realize that distance learning has an impact on additional services that the school is not currently able to provide that goes beyond our core educational program, such as bus transportation, after school activities, and Aguilitas Aftercare. We are also aware of the financial pressures some families are experiencing due to COVID-19. For now, we have delayed billing for this month while we evaluate how to best move forward as a community. We will send more information on this topic next week.
Please note that the Ministry of Health has also declared a total quarantine for 7 days, minimum, beginning at 10:00pm, tomorrow, Thursday, March 26th, for the comunas of Santiago, Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, Ñuñoa, and Independencia. Exceptions to this total quarantine include people seeking medical, public and basic services. A digital permit to leave quarantine for the aforementioned reasons must be requested online at https://comisariavirtual.cl/. The Nido Health Unit is requesting confirmation on how the quarantine will affect the flu vaccination campaign for PK-Grade 5 students and will send more information as soon as we have it.
We will continue to update you frequently and remind you that you may join our Telegram group for important updates by downloading the app, creating an account, and then clicking this link on the same device. Please note the invitation link will expire this Saturday and may not be shared with anyone outside of the current Nido community.
As always, thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this time. We hope our community is safe and healthy, and we remind you to continue to practice health precautions and remain at home.
Warm regards,
David B. Perry
