Dear Nido Community,
All areas of our School have been working daily in preparation since prior to the start of this semester for the possibility of more cases of COVID-19 in Chile. At this time, in consultation with public health experts and peer schools around the world, we have finalized a COVID-19 Response Matrix that will be used to guide the School's response to a variety of indicators.
The matrix may be updated as we learn more and the situation evolves. Currently, with the growing number of cases in Santiago and erring on the side of caution, the School has decided to implement new preventative measures and operate on Level 2. In addition to measures taken before such as self-quarantine for students and employees who show flu-like symptoms or who may have been in contact with affected areas or people, the following measures will now be implemented:
- Parent access to campus by appointment only and for pick-up and drop-off only;
- Visitor access is by appointment only;
- After School Activities and Athletics will operate on a normal schedule on campus, but there will be no students from visiting campuses and no off-campus games or activities;
- Internal community events will be evaluated by the Crisis Response Team on a case-by-case basis;
- All local and international school trips (including field trips) are suspended. Students, faculty and staff and their household members with personal and essential travel must contact their division and the Nido Health Unit and may be subject to self-quarantine upon return;
- Additional janitorial staff to increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfection.
Please note that travel decisions made by students and their parents or household members may require self-quarantine for students and/or faculty and staff upon their return.
In addition, the Distance Learning Plan for each division has been finalized and may be found here. Last semester, when the School was closed for several days due to the social unrest, each division practiced distance learning tools and procedures and since then has modified their plans in response to their experiences and according to new best practices and resources being shared in the education community since COVID-19 closed schools in China.
At this time we will begin to make some sacrifices for the health of our greater community and we thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation in following these measures. The community will be updated as we learn more, the situation evolves, or if we move to a new level of our Response Matrix. We will also continue to update our COVID-19 webpage.
Again, a reminder that public health is a matter of public trust and we are counting on everyone to contact us if they have any concern about having been exposed to the virus and to stay at home if they are experiencing any symptoms.
Warm regards,
David B. Perry
