Magical Realism
"What happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe."
Magical realism as a genre of art presents a shift from the straightforward depiction of reality, maintaining the depiction of recognizable objects. It translates everyday experiences into strangeness, showing a strange reality but not necessarily inventing a new order of things; it simply reorders reality to make it seem alien, different.
It bases in an apparent symbolism that invites to think creatively whether the presented reality is possible or not.
Different from surrealism, magic realism shows a strange reality, not surreality; is incredible but not impossible and is imaginative not imaginary. Magical realism often integrates magical elements seamlessly into the narrative fabric of everyday life, while surrealism may be more overtly dreamlike and symbolic.
