Entrance Assessment
It is important to note that the admissions decision is based on a number of factors including testing results, thorough revision of report cards, teacher comments, and the personal interview that is performed during the admissions testing day.
Pre-Kinder and Kinder 1
What happens when we arrive at the school for our child's assessment?
Group Assessment: children assessed in March will be grouped with 16 other students. The teachers will take the children to the preschool rooms while the parents attend a meeting in an adjoining room. During the meeting with the administration, parents will complete a form about their child's social-emotional development.
Individual exam: Students evaluated after March or during the school year will go through the same process as those students evaluated in March, the only difference being that their evaluation will be on an individual basis.
What should we expect during the assessment?
Children socialize for about five minutes with the evaluator before starting the evaluation. The room contains games that evaluate each child's expressive and receptive language, concepts, behavior, and fine and gross motor skills.
How long is the assessment?
40 minutes – one hour
How can I prepare my child for the assessment?
Ways to help your child prepare include: encouraging him or her to perform activities independently and also having a good night's rest the day before the assessment!
How long after taking the assessment until I receive a response?
Those assessed in a group setting for a regular admissions deadline will be advised of the notification date.
Those assessed individually will be notified in approximately 10 working days.
Grades K2-5
What happens when we arrive at the school for our child's assessment?
Individual assessments: students who take the assessment should arrive to the Administration reception area, where they will be escorted to the Elementary School or Admissions office. Parents are encouraged to wait in the office for them.
What should we expect during the assessment?
Reading, writing, and math skills are the areas of knowledge that are assessed. After the assessment, there will be an interview with the counselor that also is part of the evaluation.
Students that do not speak any English or Spanish may also take an exam to determine their ability to learn a second language.
How long is the assessment?
90 minutes
How can I prepare my child for the assessment?
There is no way to prepare for these assessments. However, we encourage you to practice reading comprehension and math skills with your child.
How long after taking the assessment until I receive a response?
Those assessed in a group setting or for a regular admissions deadline will be advised of the notification date.
Those assessed individually for rolling admissions will be notified in approximately 10 working days.
Grades 6-8

What should we expect during the assessment?
Reading, writing, and math skills are the areas of knowledge that are assessed. After the assessments, there will be an interview with the counselor that also is part of the evaluation.
Students, who do not enter into beginning- or advanced-level Spanish might be asked to return to take a test for Spanish-level placement.
ESL students will also take an ESL assessment to evaluate their level of English.
ESL students who score at the advanced-level on their test may be asked to return and take second math test. They may also need to take a Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) placement test.How long is the assessment?
