Counseling and Wellness
Our Guidance and Counseling Team includes professionally trained school counselors whose mission is to provide temporary solution-focused counseling services and programming and to facilitate communication and coordination of care for all students. Additionally, we offer targeted support based on individual needs to ensure personalized care. These services are determined through the pre-referral and referral process, which is based on a MTSS (Multi-Tiered System) approach.
The Nido Mission and the Counseling Guiding Principles are supported through the following beliefs:
1. Counseling is important because it assists students in their individual growth and fulfillment through developmental challenges and stages in life;
2. counseling is most meaningful when there is an authentic and strong rapport between Counselor and Student;
3. counseling has been beneficial when problematic behaviors have decreased and students are able to independently apply learned skills, even when in crisis;
4. children practice counseling skills by applying learned simulation exercises to real-life situations;
5. counseling is the process of teaching social-emotional skills that can be applied to personal and intrapersonal situations.
