Counseling and Wellness

Nido’s Guidance and Counseling Team delivers a comprehensive developmental counseling program, working in partnership with students, families, and staff. Our counseling guiding principle is to achieve the Nido Mission by meeting students’ individual learning needs in a responsive, collaborative, and inclusive environment so students can be successful socially, emotionally, and academically.  Our qualified and experienced school counselors provide short-term, solution-focused counseling services and programming to facilitate and support the well-being of all students. This may include the facilitation of small group sessions for students, family workshops, and referrals to external providers as needed.

The Nido mission and the counseling guiding principle are supported through the following beliefs:

  • Counselors support the academic, social, emotional, career, and global perspective development and well-being of all students, assisting students in their individual growth and fulfillment through developmental challenges and stages in life.
  • The safety and well-being of students is paramount and must be advocated for continuously.
  • Counseling is most meaningful when there is an authentic and strong rapport between the counselor and student.
  • By helping  students name and recognize their strengths, they become more capable and willing to tackle life challenges independently.
  • Counseling involves the process of encouraging and teaching social-emotional skills that can be applied to personal and intrapersonal situations.
  • Counseling is most effective when following a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Framework, focusing the majority of efforts on prevention and advocacy.
