The Middle School technology curriculum
is entirely integrated into the core and
encore classes. All standards and benchmarks
are met through projects and assessments
in these classes. We emphasize authentic
projects that require real life applications
of technology. Students learn that technology
is an invaluable tool for their learning,
research, presentation, calculation and
analytical needs.
Each Middle School student maintains a
password-protected home directory on a
centralized server which stores all their
work in technology. These student directories
contain a variety of lessons and projects
that demonstrate how the student has integrated
technology into the subject areas. During
the course of their Middle School years,
students learn to navigate to their home
directories, share files with teachers
and other students and to access networked
printers. One important goal we have for
all students is to learn to leverage the
power of networked computers and peripherals.
Middle school students learn how to use
the following applications:
• Audacity
• Dreamweaver
• Filemaker Pro
• Fireworks
• Flash
• Garage Band
• Google Earth
• Google Sketchup
• Graphic Converter
• iDVD
• iMovie
• iPhoto
• iTunes
• Inspiration
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word,
Excel, Powerpoint)
• Photoshop Elements
This list will soon be updated when we
complete our purchasing of applications
that have been optimized for the Intel
processors, which all our computers run.

PURPOSE:
These policy guidelines are provided for
all employees and/or students of Nido
de Aguilas who intend to publish web pages
to be hosted on the school’s web
server. The purpose of the web site is
to provide information about the school,
its mission and services, and its events
and programs. In addition, web pages may
be used to provide access to educational
resources, informational tools, navigational
aids, and to further the professional
growth and development of the faculty
and staff.
WHO CONTRIBUTES:
All school areas, student organizations, and individual faculty and staff are encouraged to create a web page of information they believe will be of interest to people within and outside the school.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Web page authors are responsible for preparing and maintaining the content of their pages. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that all web page content is accurate, current, useful, professional, and consistent with the Nido de Aguilas mission. All web pages must comply with school policies. Building principals are responsible for approving all web pages from their division and ensuring that all web pages in their areas adhere to the policies. The Web Master will also review all web pages to be posted on the official school web site before they are published on the web server.
OWNERSHIP:
The International School Nido de Aguilas web site is an official publication of The International School Nido de Aguilas. All materials (including text and graphic images) appearing on the school's official web pages may only be reproduced on, by, or with the permission from the Headmaster or his designee. Nido reserves the right to edit or remove web site information at its discretion.
Individual faculty, administrators, staff, or student organizations that create their own home pages have ownership of their original material. Each individual must be aware of copyright infringement.
TYPES OF WEB PAGES:
Two categories of web pages will be hosted on the Nido de Aguilas web server: official school web pages and teacher web pages. Below is a list of guidelines that will govern the maintenance of and determine who is ultimately responsible for each type of page.
1.) "Official School Web Pages"
Official school web pages are all web pages that provide information about the school, the educational programs, services, personnel, and events offered by the school and must be approved by the Headmaster or his designee. The official Nido de Aguilas home page is the “entry point” from which all other official school web pages are linked. Other official school web pages may include, but are not limited to, following areas: school divisions, various school offices (curriculum, business, admissions, etc.) grade-levels, academic departments, athletics, library media center, PTA, school clubs societies, school alumni, and school newspapers.
Official school web pages must be prepared using the approved school templates. Developers of official school web pages must follow the web page publishing process.
The following specifications have been established to assure accuracy, consistency, and coherence of the school's web pages:
• All official school pages should be developed using the appropriate template(s) prepared by the school's Webmaster. (Templates may include a graphic header, background, navigation, font style, color, or size).
• Titles and headings appear in upper and lower case letters.
• No alterations of the school logos are permitted.
• Duplication should be avoided by providing links to files rather than recreating data already available.
• Each page must be dated as to its latest revision. This can be done with a line at the bottom of the page such as "Last modified 03/26/02". After a reasonable period of inactivity, a web page may be deleted.
• Graphic images larger than 50K must be represented by a thumbnail image of less than 50K or a text link.
• Copyrighted material of any kind may not be used without the copyright holder's written permission.
• All web pages must be consistent with the school acceptable use policy.
• All changes and additions must be approved by the Webmaster in consultation with the Headmaster or his designee.
• Students’ last names, personal information, phone numbers or addresses are never to be published.
• Faculty and/or student personal pages are not allowed on the school server. No direct links to student or faculty personal pages or chat groups are permitted from any school web page. If a student or teacher wants to refer a reader to a personal web page, he/she may do so in text only and not through a hyperlink.
Web page authors are responsible for maintaining the content, accuracy and currency of official school web pages. At the discretion of The International School Nido de Aguilas Webmaster, inaccurate or untimely links will be deactivated. Should a department's page contain problems, the department head will be notified and required to update the content in order to reactivate the links.
2.) "Teacher Web Pages"
Teacher web pages are those pages that contain academic information or information pertinent to teaching a course such as tests, review questions, course assignments, course syllabus, links to course appropriate information, and other information.
Content appropriate for teacher web pages includes:
• Course objectives and syllabi
• Course schedules
• Homework and class activities
• Faculty office hours, phone numbers,
email addresses, etc.
• Student generated pages related to specific course work.
• Links to other curriculum-related pages
A teacher who writes a web page is responsible for maintaining his or her page(s). All new pages will be reviewed by the building principal. At the discretion of The International School Nido de Aguilas Webmaster, links to any pages found not in compliance with school policy will be deactivated.
RULES APPLYING TO ALL WEB PAGES:
• All web pages must be updated by the beginning of each school year or they are subject to removal.
• No link or page may be employed for commercial use.
• No link or any material should violate the rights of others.
• Soliciting sales, advertising, selling a service or posting an advertisement to a news group are considered to be in violation of the school's agreement with its service provider and is strictly prohibited.
• Anyone who violates any of these rules will be notified that the links to their web pages will be removed. Violators must update page content to be in compliance with school policies in order to have links to their pages reactivated.
• Unlawful or inappropriate use of any school hardware or software and any web page linked to the school server will be subject to appropriate disciplinary procedures of The International School Nido de Aguilas. Any employee of the school who violates this policy is subject to the appropriate disciplinary procedures of The International School Nido de Aguilas.
Consequences of Violations
In accordance with Nido's Technology Acceptable Use Policy, consequences of violations may include but are not limited to:
• Removal of Web Page
• Suspension or revocation of Internet access
