Nido de Aguilas (Eagle’s
Nest) was founded
in 1934 as a private,
co-educational, non-sectarian
day school. Today,
Nido serves over 1,400
students from more
than forty countries
and offers a comprehensive
college preparatory
educational program
from Early Childhood
(age three) through
grade 12. Nido serves
the international
business and diplomatic
community of Santiago,
as well as, local
students seeking an
English language,
US style education.
Current enrollment
is composed of 50%
U.S. and international
students and 50% host
country students.
All classes are taught
in English except
Spanish language classes,
which are required
at all grade levels
from kindergarten
to grade 12. Nido
offers special classes
to support non-native
English speakers.
However, entrance
to upper elementary,
middle and high school
grades require prerequisite
levels of English
proficiency. Given
the academic nature
of the program, the
school offers limited
assistance at the
elementary and middle
school levels for
children with basic
remediation needs.
Nido does not offer
programs for students
who have more serious
learning disabilities
or who have special
physical or emotional
needs.

The educational program
is that of a traditional
United States college
preparatory school.
The language of instruction
is English, with required
courses for students
seeking the Chilean
diploma taught in
Spanish. In the Early
Childhood Center and
the Elementary School,
students are grouped
heterogeneously and
provision is made
for individual learning
needs according to
relative achievement.
The Middle School
program consists of
five core subjects
of English, math,
science, social studies,
and Spanish, with
additional classes
in physical education,
music, art, drama
and computer. Although
emphasis in the High
School is on preparation
for entrance to United
States colleges or
universities, many
of our graduates are
also admitted to universities
in Chile, Canada,
Asia, South America,
and Europe. Students
may choose to obtain
one or more of the
following: United
States Diploma, Chilean
National Diploma,
and/or an International
Baccalaureate Diploma.
All students must
earn a minimum of
27 Carnegie units
in college prep-courses
and electives to meet
graduation requirements.

The International
Baccalaureate Program
was adopted in 1986
and over thirty IB
courses are offered
in English, Spanish,
French, math, science,
social studies, computer
science, theatre arts,
dance, art and Theory
of Knowledge.
To be awarded an IB
Diploma, a student
must complete a course
load of IB classes
in six specified areas.
Three at the higher
level and three at
the standard level.
Additionally, students
must take the Theory
of Knowledge course,
complete an Extended
Essay, and participate
in creative, action
or community service
projects.
Since many of our
upper level courses
are taught at the
IB level, 100 percent
of our students take
at least one IB course
during their academic
career. Approximately
50% of students enroll
in the full International
Baccalaureate Diploma
Program. Average IB
Diploma scores for
Nido students over
the past five years
have been 32 points
out of 45, compared
to the 2009 world-wide
IB exam average of
29.5. (A minimum of
24 points is required
to earn the diploma).

weigh advanced courses
nor rank its students.
Additionally, grade
point average (GPA)
is computed based
only on course work

and courses completed
at other institutions
are not listed on
the transcript; however,
a copy of the previous
