Middle School Environmental Program

MISSION: The International School Nido de Aguilas´ Middle School environmental education program advances the founder Dr. Waldo Stevenson´s vision and our school mission. Dr. Stevenson saw nature as “the most appropriate environment for character formation” and the means “to bring out in the learners a sense of social sharing.” The Nido de Aguilas´ mission´s core values of globalism and leadership emphasize respect and appreciation for diversity, environmental and community stewardship, and teamwork and service to others. The Middle School meets these objectives by focusing on two areas of student development: the affective and cognitive domains.

PROGRAM GOALS: The ultimate goal of the program is to enhance students’ relationships with themselves, their peers, the community and the environment. We also aim to provide students with the information and skills necessary to confront today´s environmental issues.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: The Middle School environmental program teaches ecology, human-environment interactions, and critical problem solving skills through classroom lessons, outdoor experiences, hands-on fieldwork, and community involvement. Another aspect of the program is outdoor trips that emphasize outdoor skills, encourage reflection on one´s relationship to nature, and develop team and problem-solving skills and leadership.
