The middle school program at Nido de Aguilas is a comprehensive program that consists of core classes (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Spanish) as well as courses in Physical Education, Fine Arts (Band, Art, Drama, General Music), and Health.  Our technology curriculum is completely integrated into students\' core classes. English as a second language instruction is provided for students who qualify for that support, and a new Student Resource Center has been added to provide limited academic support for students who qualify.    We also offer an extensive after school activities program throughout the school year. Finally, a daily advisory period is scheduled to provide the opportunity to address age-appropriate interpersonal issues and time for additional academic support.  Each of the advisory classes has been grouped with five other advisory classes to make up what we call "Houses." The Houses will serve as the basis for many school activities including intramurals, school spirit activities, and problem-solving challenges, and community service projects. Communication at the middle school level is extremely important. For this reason, parents receive a weekly e-mail update from the principal. Additionally, many middle school teachers have wikis to help keep parents and students informed about homework, test dates, field trips and class procedures. Written documentation of assignments is also sent home with students each day via the middle school agenda (assignment book).  There is also an on-line virtual agenda for each grade level where teachers post assignments once a week. We hope to provide a learning environment that enables each student to grow academically, socially, emotionally and physically. To accomplish this goal, staff, students and parents must work collaboratively to create an environment that emphasizes continuous improvement. We must also work to create an atmosphere that is nurturing, encouraging and supportive.
