Course Description: This course begins with a brief review of the techniques of keyboarding, word processing spreadsheets and databases. Topics covered will include basic multimedia presentations, desktop publishing, image treatment, basic HTML and web searching. Other areas covered will include the history of computers, terminology, hardware, software, ethics and other current issues, of the role the computer plays in areas such as business, advertising and entertainment. Evaluation will be based on tests, projects and presentations.


Course Title: Multimedia Production
Course Number: 8020
Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Computer Applications and teacher recommendation
Course Description: Students should have successfully completed Computer Applications or its equivalent and be able to use basic multimedia software. Students in this class will plan, design and present material in an organized and professional manner. Using multimedia programs and equipment are the basis of this course. Upon completion of the course, students are able to create their own graphics, edit sound and images and incorporate them into meaningful presentations. Evaluation will be based on the quality of both the visual and auditory aspects of the presentations.


Course Title: IB Information Technology in a Global Society SL
Course Number: 8030
Grade Level: 11 or 12
Prerequisite: Computer Applications and teacher recommendation
Course Description: A one year course leading to the IB Information Technology in a Global Society Subsidiary Level examination in May. Successful completion of Computer Literacy or Computer Concepts is required. Aspects of ITGS are to understand the uses of information systems, to evaluate the consequences of new technologies on society, to question the social impact, which has resulted, and to project what changes will most likely emerge in the future. The focus will be on the emergence of an information society with cultural, technological, political and ethical components, all affected and interrelated by ITGS. In addition to the IB external exam, evaluation will be based on tests, projects, and presentations.
