There
are two school nurses working in alternate
shifts throughout the regular school day
7:30 AM– 5 PM. Also, there is always
a nurse on duty for school sports activities
held after 5pm and on Saturdays. Additionally,
a school nurse is on duty during school
events such as Fiesta Huasa, Kermess,
PTA Talent Show, and High School Graduation.
Nurses provide routine, minor first aid
and medical care on a non-recurring basis,
but may not make diagnoses nor prescribe
medications.
In the event of illness or injury to a student, first aid measures will be initiated by the nurse in the Health Unit.
In case of injury requiring more than
first aid attention, the student will
be taken to the Clínica Alemana
for further treatment. Parents will be
advised of the accident by phone and will
be asked to meet the school nurse at the
clinic.
Upon acceptance and throughout their duration
at Nido de Aguilas, all students receive
Cost-free insurance at the Clinica Alemana
which covers them for accidents of a traumatic
nature, 24 hours-a-day, throughout the
calendar year. It takes a while for the
Clinic to issue each student an individual
I.D. card. However, in the interim, should
your child require emergency attention,
you need only go to the Clinic’s
"URGENCIA ESCOLAR" (Student
Emergency Service) and state the school
and your child’s name, in order
to receive prompt medical attention.
The nurse may administer medication for minor, routine health problems and injuries to students as needed but not antibiotics or tranquilizers. If a student is required to take regular oral medication during school hours, the nurse may administer the medication following a written signed request from the parents. Parents must also inform the school of any change in the student's health or medication.
Included also in the nurse's scope of
responsibilities is the identification
of health problems. The nurse will work
with teachers, principals, guidance personnel
and parents in helping students obtain
appropriate attention for specific health
problems. Nurse’s routine duties
